CORE

Transforming Ground Motion Monitoring with AI-Enhanced InSAR, GNSS, and Optical Sensing

CORE (COrner Reflector Enabled Remote Sensing) is a remote sensing system developed by GVL to address the challenges of monitoring ground motion and infrastructure settlement. Traditional monitoring methods are expensive, logistically challenging, and unsafe in hard-to-reach areas. CORE provides a scalable and cost-effective alternative by combining All-Terrain InSAR (AT-InSAR), Permanent Scatterers InSAR (PSInSAR), GNSS-equipped Corner Reflectors, and optical data. This system enables accurate, continuous, and automated monitoring over urban, rural, and vegetated landscapes. Leveraging Commercial Off The Shelf (COTS) components and open-source software like ISCE2 and MintPy, CORE reduces costs and increases accessibility for widespread deployment, especially where conventional survey techniques are impractical.

The innovation behind CORE lies in its integration of multiple sensing technologies with AI and ML-based processing to enhance data quality, automate analysis, and provide predictive insights. AT-InSAR, built upon GVL’s advanced SBAS InSAR techniques, delivers wide-area deformation monitoring, while PSInSAR targets high-precision displacements at specific points. Optical imagery, including data from Sentinel-2 and Airbus’s Pleiades, provides essential visual context to radar findings. Unlike most competitors who rely solely on PSInSAR and Corner Reflectors, GVL’s approach is more versatile and adaptive. The AI components improve anomaly detection and early-warning systems, helping users manage infrastructure proactively and more safely.

CORE fits into GVL’s long-term strategy by enhancing its monitoring services and expanding into new infrastructure and environmental sectors such as high-speed rail, skyscrapers, and peatland preservation. Its implementation aligns with European and global sustainability goals, particularly in safety, innovation, and climate resilience. By enabling reduced field deployment and real-time risk assessments, CORE improves site safety while lowering operational costs. The service is expected to fuel company growth, potentially doubling GVL’s workforce in three years. Its modular architecture, holistic data integration, and user-friendly visualisation platform set it apart as a leading-edge solution in the geospatial monitoring industry.
